　会長就任に当たりまして、ご挨拶を申し上げます。皆様におかれましては、益々ご健勝のこととお慶び申し上げます。さて、この度、去る6月23日に開催されました沖縄空手道協会定期総会におきまして、第18代会長へ選出され就任いたしました山城博邦でございます。本協会は、平成元年4月1日、上地流空手道協会から心機一転、発展的な解消を図ることを目的に発足された組織でございます。これまで、多くの会員の皆様や諸先生方の空手界をはじめ、あらゆる分野におきまして、ご活動・ご活躍並びに多くのご苦労・ご尽力によりまして本協会は、発展し活動して参りました。

　このような中におきまして、本協会の会長へ就任いたしましたことは，身に余る思いと同時に、責任の重さを痛感しております。私は「沖縄空手を守る」使命感を肝に銘じ空手修行へ精進するとともに、本協会発展のために邁進し、会長職の重責を全うして参ります。会員の皆様はもとより、関係各位の皆様方のご協力・ご理解を賜わりますとともに、ご指導・ご鞭撻の程宜しくお願い申し上げます。結びに、関係各位の益々のご活躍とご健勝を祈念申し上げまして、会長就任のご挨拶と致します。

沖縄空手道協会についてAbout Okinawa Karate-do Kyoukai

　沖縄空手道協会は、沖縄の技芸伝統無形文化としての空手道を授受錬磨するために設立された組織である。

　空手道授受の過程で会員相互が切磋琢磨しあい、心身を鍛錬し、人格を陶冶する。当協会は「修武會」（昭和8年）、「上地流空手道協会」（昭和46年）、「沖縄空手道協会」（平成元年）と生成発展し、今日まで92年(2025年時点)の歴史をもつ。

　平成元年（1989年） 4月1日をもって、心機一転を期すべく、従来の「上地流空手道協会」を発展的に解消し、「沖縄空手道協会」として名称変えをした。略称「沖空会」である。

　国際化の時代に相応すべく、小次元流派名を組織名として使用することは控え、沖縄即空手、空手即沖縄として国際社会で共通認識を得ている「沖縄」及び「空手」を前面に打ち出し、沖縄の技芸文化を継承発展させる文化機関としての使命を全うすべく組織名を改めた。

　「沖縄空手道協会」という名称をもって我々は国際化の時代へ船出した。名実共に新たなる出発である。

三つ巴（白・黄）－尚徳王（1461年～1469）以来の尚家の定絞で、琉球王統の象徴（薙刀の左旋回手法〈渦巻く水の勢い〉）
全体としての円環－天壌無窮・公正・平等・平和

紋章全体としての意味Meaning of a crest

　技芸の世界では伝統と現代の合一性を尊び、伝統が現代を包括するのを基本原理とする。古きをたずねて新しきを知る温故知新の精神こそ尊ぶべきものである。求道者は、初めもなければ終わりもない永遠なるものを目指すべきで、自己完結した完全なる一者こそ道の指標となるものである。究道無限である。円満・平等・平和の精神こそ武が求めるものである。

I would like to extend my greetings on the occasion of my appointment as president.

I hope that you are all in good health.

I am Yamashiro Hirokuni, who was elected and appointed as the 18th President of the Okinawa Karate-do Association at the regular general meetiong held on June 23rd.

This association was established on April 1st, 1989, with the aim of making a fresh start and dissolving the Uechi-ryu Karate-do Association.

Up until now, this association has developed and operated thanks to the efforts and hard work of many members and teachers in the karate world and in all other fields.

In this situation, i feel an overwhelming sense of humility and a keen sense of responsibility to have been appointed president of this association.

With a sense of mission to "Protect Okinawa Karate"in mind, I will continue to devote myself to my karate training, strive for the development of this association, and fulfill the heavy responsibilities of my position as president.

I would like to ask for the cooperation and understanding of not only our members, but also all other related parties, and ask for your guidance and encouragement.

In closing, I woule like to wish all involved parties continued success and good health, and conclude my speech as president.

About Okinawa Karate-do Kyoukai

The Okinawa Karate-do Association was established with the aim of cultivationg and refining karate as an intagible cultural heritage of Okinawa.
Through the process of training in karate-do, members strive to improve themselves both physically and mentally, and to cultivate their character.
Our association has a history 92 years, evolving from the "Shoubu Uso"(1933), "Uechi-ryu Karate-do Association"(1971), and finally becoming the "Okinawa Karate-do Association"in 1989.

On April 1, 1989, with a fresh start in mind, we dissolved the former "Uechi-ryu Karate-do Association " and renamed in the "Okinawa Karate-do Association", abbreviated as "Okukai".
In keeping with the era of globalzation, we decided to avoid using the name of a small,specific style of karate.
Instead, we adopted the names "Okinawa" and "Karate", which are universally recognized in the international community, as a way to emphasize that Okinawa and karate are inseparable. With this new name, we set sail into the era of globalization.
This is a truly new beginning in both name and substance.

Meaning of a crest

In the realm of the arts, we revere the unity of tradition and modernity, with tradition encompassing the modern as a fundamental principle.
The spirit of "kokochi shin" (leatning new things by studying the old) is what we should cherish.
Seekers should aim for the eternal, with neither beginning nor end, and a self-sufficient, pertect oneness should serve as a guide on their path.
The pursuit of the Way is infinite.
The spirits of harmony, equality, and peace are what martial arts seek.
